5-Day Devotional: Living Out Your Identity In Christ

Devotional series based on the sermon: “Be Who God Made You”

Day 1: Remember Who You Are

Reading: Galatians 3:26-27; Romans 3:21-24

Devotional: "Remember who you are." These simple words carry profound spiritual weight. You are not defined by your performance, possessions, or productivity. You are a child of God, clothed in Christ's righteousness through baptism. Before you face today's challenges, pause and remember: God has already declared you righteous through faith in Jesus. You don’t need to earn approval through perfect behavior; instead it’s about living from the secure identity God has given you. When temptation whispers that your worth depends on what you accumulate or achieve, return to this truth: you are God's beloved child, covered in Christ's perfection. Let this identity shape every decision today.

Day 2: Pursuing What Matters

Reading: Matthew 6:25-33; 1 Timothy 6:6-11

Devotional: Our culture screams that happiness comes through accumulation. Check your account. Upgrade your phone. Pursue more. But Jesus offers a radically different path: "Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness." Today's reading calls you to pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance, and gentleness instead of wealth. Don’t view these as burdensome requirements for earning salvation; instead think of them as meaningful pursuits that bring true life. You already have Christ's perfection; now you get to live in that freedom. When anxiety about finances or possessions creeps in, redirect your energy toward these eternal pursuits. This is the good life - not perfection, but direction.

Day 3: The Good Fight of Faith

Reading: Romans 8:28-39; 1 Timothy 6:12

Devotional: Fear is faith's greatest enemy. New problems trigger old anxieties, and suddenly we're trying to control everything, losing sleep, and forgetting God's faithfulness. The "good fight of faith" isn't about achieving perfect trust; it's about returning to trust again and again. When fear supercharges your emotions today, remember: nothing can separate you from God's love in Christ Jesus. He who began a good work in you will complete it. Fighting for faith means choosing trust over fear, even when circumstances seem overwhelming. God has proven His love at the cross; He won't abandon you now. Take a breath. Give God time to work things out for your good.

Day 4: Making God Visible

Reading: John 18:33-37; 2 Corinthians 4:6-7

Devotional: Nobody on earth sees God in all His glory. But they see God in you. Jesus gave His "good confession" before Pilate, revealing truth even as He faced death. He showed the world what God's love looks like. Now, as His follower, you carry that same mission. When you pursue gentleness instead of revenge, endurance instead of quitting, love instead of self-protection, people see the invisible God. You're not perfect, just forgiven. But when you reflect Christ in everyday moments, you glorify God and make Him visible to a watching world. Today, someone needs to see Jesus. Let them see Him in you, imperfect vessel though you are.

Day 5: Until He Appears

Reading: 1 Timothy 6:13-16; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18

Devotional: Your marching orders don't change until Jesus returns. Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance, and gentleness. Don’t do this until you're “perfect,” but until He appears. Some days you'll fall short. That's when you remember: Jesus already died for those failures. You're already forgiven. Now get back in the game. Don't beat yourself up; pivot and return to your purpose. Write down those six pursuits. Look at them each morning. This is your job today: to live as God's child, reflecting His character in a world that desperately needs to see Him. To God be honor and might forever. Keep running your race until He brings you home.
