Discovering True Treasure

Devotion based on Matthew 13:44-46

“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.

“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.
— Matthew 13:44-46

The merchant and the man in the field both made radical decisions when they discovered something of ultimate value. They sold everything not out of obligation, but joy.

What treasure have you been accumulating that pales in comparison to knowing Christ? Perhaps it's affirmation from others, professional achievements, or financial security. These aren't inherently wrong, but when they become our ultimate treasure, they disappoint.

Jesus invites you to examine what you're clinging to most tightly. The kingdom of heaven isn't just a future reality - it's present now, offering peace that transcends circumstances.

Today, ask yourself: If what I believe about Jesus doesn't sustain me at the moment before death, have I truly grasped His value? Let this question reorient your heart toward the one treasure that never fades.
